Prisons and drama

This book attempts to fill a gap in the academic literature on prisons, specifically focusing on the portrayal of penal institutions (prisons) in Egyptian drama, particularly in films produced during recent and contemporary periods and television series that depicted prisons within a specific framework. Like other institutions, penal institutions require improved public image through the media. The events of the January 25, 2011 revolution, including the storming of prisons, underscore the importance of studying the media portrayal of prisons in Egyptian drama, which influences a large segment of Egyptian and even Arab society. Through a number of longitudinal and cross-sectional case studies, both analytical and field-based, this book seeks to present scholarly and research-based observations to those responsible for these institutions and others, hoping they may offer a glimmer of hope for development and modernization, ultimately contributing to a progressive society founded on science and scientific research in all its aspects.
