Our pockets and the pockets of foreigners

Progress is often understood as owning the latest products, wearing the finest clothes, and walking in streets lined with imported cars. But is a person civilized simply because they surround themselves with other people's products? Civilization lies not in consuming fruits, but in planting the trees that bear them. If we want to adopt Western civilization to elevate us to the ranks of developed nations, the solution is not to import cars, but to establish factories to produce them. It is not to buy elegant furniture, but to establish industries that support the local market and drive the economy. A nation that consumes without producing places itself on the path of dependency, no matter how wealthy it appears. The model is clear in the comparison between Paris and Cairo. Paris imports its food from the countryside, but reprocesses it, then exports it as products, thus achieving a complete economic cycle. Cairo, on the other hand, is merely an intermediary, importing foreign goods and distributing them to the rural population without adding industrial value. For nations to advance, they must transform from a consumer market to a productive force, investing in building factories instead of hoarding imports. Civilization is not about acquiring what others produce, but about the ability to innovate and manufacture.
