I'll take you through the stages of depression and enlightensthe effect each stage has on us, anger, fear, denial,resentment, and more. I had to discover who I really amdeep in my soul. This book reminds me that I ve gone throughthe tunnel of depression and came out enlightened to who Iam today: a person living with depression, not a depressedperson. I ll give you the knowledge to separate the two bynot letting the depression defi ne who we are. I ll give youknowledge to help keep you walking straight on that narrowedge of darkness. Once depression consumed me, I hadno identity, no hope, no dreams. Today, with the support ofthe right type of medications and the help I receive frommy doctors, I can separate who I am from the hopelessnessof depression. When one says the word depression , we automaticallyreceive a variety of responses. Some people saythe depressed person is just trying to get out of theirresponsibilities. Others say, If that person wanted to,they could snap out of their moodiness and get on with life. Those who can t believe depression is a legitimate diseaseare apt to label us as hypochondriacs. There is no magic potion that can free us from the deeplyembedded, strangling roots of depression. But the incredibletruth about today s scientifi c advances is the medication thatlightens this darkness and gives us hope. Fear is the mostpowerful hold depression has over us. Knowledge aboutwhat depression is and does goes a long way in helping uslet go of these buried fears.
