Dublin Correspondent

When Dublin correspondent Niall Byrne disappears, the evidence seems to point towards a dangerous political conspiracy. Physician Eleanor Hartwell and journalist Julian Reed travel from Birmingham to investigate, bringing complementary skills, hard-won trust and a determination not to mistake rumour for fact. Altered press credentials, railway bookings, hotel entries and expense accounts reveal that someone has been travelling under borrowed names. Political factions provide convincing distractions, but the trail increasingly suggests a professional fraud hidden behind sensational reporting. As Eleanor examines the human evidence with careful restraint and Julian follows the documentary trail, the pair must separate genuine political tensions from an invented scandal. Their search leads through Dublin offices, meeting rooms, river crossings and rural lodging houses, where a missing man's coded message may hold the key to his survival. With the police pursuing lawful proof and a vulnerable witness depending on discretion, Eleanor and Julian face a case in which truth must be published carefully—and earned completely. Amid the investigation, their established love deepens into practical partnership, allowing both medicine and journalism a place in the life they plan together.
