April's life

April Haskin is a lobbyist who has lived in Ohio for nearly five years. She comes from a close-knit family: her father, Tom, is a disciplined Marine who struggles with emotional openness; her mother, Alice, is a source of quiet comfort; and her brother, Mike, remains fiercely loyal even as he carries his own private burdens.Professionally, she works in advocacy, but her world centers on Roland-the man she loves- who now lies in a coma after a skiing accident. Their relationship began when Mike brought Roland to her home, and their connection was immediate. Over time, she became the one person Roland trusted with his secrets: his striking milky-white eyes with crimson centers, his traumatic childhood (orphaned at four and abandoned to an orphanage by his grandfather), and the controlled power he keeps hidden beneath a meek exterior.April is someone who waited a long time for love, and when she found it with Roland, she committed to all of him-his painful past, his mysterious presence, even the darkness he carries. Now, as she keeps vigil at his bedside, she faces the devastating possibility that the life she finally built with him may be torn away.
