Nichole, better known to her readers as the anonymous advice guru "Dear Abbey," can handle just about any problem-except her own. With her 10-year high school reunion looming in sunny Palm Springs, she's bracing for an awkward weekend of small talk and sidestepping her ex, Dominic, who will be there with his impossibly perfect on-again, off-again girlfriend, Poppy. Desperate to avoid pity stares (and maybe spark a little jealousy), Nichole agrees to her best friend's hare-brained scheme to bring a fake boyfriend.

Enter Graham, a tattooed, laid-back mountain man from Colorado who's a little too charming for his own good. He's up for the challenge, and their faux romance starts with plenty of staged hand-holding by the pool and picture-perfect smiles under the desert sun. But just as Nichole starts to think this plan might actually work, everything gets messy: Poppy is Graham's ex-fiancée.

Suddenly, their weekend of fake romance turns into a whirlwind of mixed signals, that fly faster than drink orders at the pool bar, jealous standoffs, and fire pit confessions that feel more like emotional dodgeball. Nichole can't tell if she's falling for Graham, still hung up on Dominic, or just losing her mind in the desert heat. And Graham? He's either pining for Poppy or secretly swooning over Nichole-it's impossible to tell what going on behind his giant belt buckle.
