What happens when a sculptor begins to see life itself as a form of sculpture?

The Sculptor's Mind is an intimate journey through the extraordinary life and observations of Michael Siegel, an artist, traveller, teacher of movement, and lifelong student of the human experience.

From his childhood in New York to Japan, Taiwan, Africa and beyond, Michael's life has been shaped by curiosity and an unusual willingness to follow the unexpected. His journey carried him across cultures and continents, into encounters with artists, travellers, martial artists and ordinary people whose lives left lasting impressions.

At the heart of the story is Zambia, where what began as another stop on a much longer journey became home for nearly four decades. It was there that Michael formed a remarkable friendship with Zambian sculptor Akwila Simpasa, taught movement and physical therapy, and continued exploring ideas that would eventually connect sculpture, Tai Chi, Qigong and the human body.

But this is more than the story of one man's travels.

Through conversations, memories and reflections, The Sculptor's Mind explores friendship, creativity, movement, health, curiosity, observation and the unexpected directions a life can take.

Like sculpture itself, perhaps a meaningful life is shaped not only by what we add, but also by what we learn to remove.
