The Pageturner

Have you ever wanted to jump into your favorite book? Talk face to face with your favorite characters? Use magic powers or fight in battles alongside them?

That is exactly what The Pageturner is about. And not just jumping into books, saving them - and humanity - from destruction.

The Pageturner is about a thirteen year old middle schooler, named Gertrude "Gerty" Peters, who discovers during one summer, while visiting her grandma's house in Maine, that she has the ability to jump into stories. But not just any stories - ones that her grandma's library chooses for her. 

Gerty learns that she has the power, passed down from generation to generation, to save these chosen stories from destruction. She and her grandma are called Pageturners: special families throughout the world that are meant to keep storytelling and cultures alive. 

A Pageturner must learn skills through trials, diving into the assigned books, all of which leads to a battle with Scadorath-the master manipulator behind every literary villain. He seeks to obliterate stories and their characters from history, taking civilization and society down with them. And he is determined to stop Gerty from succeeding. 

As Gerty begins her trials, the library chooses Treasure Island for Gerty's first book, but the book is more at risk of falling apart than her grandma had supposed. And worse yet, she has an encounter with Scadorath, which was NOT supposed to happen. Gerty finds herself charging into new territory and in serious risk of destroying the book.

Will Gerty master her abilities and save Jim Hawkins? Will she be able to jump into other stories? Or will she fail and have her family's powers die with her?
