Zayna Dajani, Callum Rooke, Maysa, Yusef, and marine archaeologist Samira Khoury descend through the first lock aboard an experimental deep-sea submersible. Inside the submerged city, they discover streets protected beneath impossible pressure domes, canals that begin flowing after thousands of years, and an ancient intelligence known as the Chorus.

The Chorus remembers every name carried through the Lost Roads.

It speaks with the voices of the dead, offers answers to every unanswered question, and promises to restore every record destroyed at Petra, Tyre, Alexandria, the Andes, and the Black Monastery.

All it asks is that the Keepers reopen the city's command system.
