Certain places in the American sports landscape have an immediate impression on our awareness as sports fans. Churchill Downs, Lambeau Field, Wrigley Field, the streets of Boston, and Indianapolis are recognizable for hosting major sports events. They are places with history and personality. They are vibrant with enthusiasm and reflect a slice of the American culture through sports. A tiny place in central North Carolina called Pinehurst is one of those places. A little more than a century old, Pinehurst has deep roots in its sandy soil as a mecca of American golf. The best way to learn about Pinehurst is through the stories. In "Tales From Pinehurst", readers will experience historical tales and lore from those that have witnessed the growth of one of golf's most endearing playing fields. "Tales from Pinehurst" is an inside look at one of the most popular cities in America when it comes to Championship golf. In Pinehurst, North Carolina, golf is more than a game, it is a way of life, and the people have seen more than their share of golf history. From the famed and feared Donald Ross creation Number 2 course, which has baffled professional golfers for decades, to the Ryder Cup and US Opens it has hosted, its stories last for lifetimes.
