This is the first retrospective monograph of fashion's preeminent image maker, Steven Meisel. Beautifully illustrated with over two hundred works by the photographer, Steven Meisel spans over thirty years, from his fabled beginnings on the New York 1980s scene to his collaborations with international magazines, designers, models, and celebrities that have resulted in the single most important visual archive of fashion and contemporary style. Steven Meisel not only depicts fashion, he defines it-and gives it cultural resonance. Along with his talent for casting the faces that come to represent the look of fashion, Meisel scripts story lines that reference and reflect contemporary culture, with an abundant lexicon of photographic styles and attitudes always in play. No other fashion photographer has as consistently and prolifically challenged, reinvented, and experimented with the genre of fashion photography. An exquisite and essential volume, Steven Meisel includes many of fashion's most enduring photographs created season after season by Meisel, demonstrating that he alone continuously invents style and image.
