"How can I encourage my students to reflect more deeply on their learning?" This, and many other questions were the catalyst for a research study where one teacher''s strategies are observed, discussed and revealed, layer by layer, to share how her classroom of young learners was able to reflect well beyond ''I like it''. Creating a portfolio learning environment which engages students in self-regulated learning process such as goal setting and reflection worked wonders for Ms. Valerie, an early elementary classroom teacher. The strategies used to engage students and the language used to develop reflective language shaped these students to become reflective learners. The stories shared in this book offer concrete strategies for teachers who want to move their students towards authentic reflection. Categories of reflection questions, samples of student portfolio reflections and reflection tools are yours to use and adapt to your own classroom practices.
