Burnout is a syndrome that develops against the background of chronic stress and leads to the depletion of the emotional, energy and personal resources of a working person. The first works on this problem appeared in the USA. American psychiatrist H. Frendenberger (1974) described the phenomenon and gave it the name "burnout" to characterize the psychological state of healthy people who are in intensive and close communication with clients in an emotionally loaded atmosphere while providing professional help. Social psychologist C. Maslach (1976) defined this condition as a syndrome of physical and emotional exhaustion, including the development of negative self-esteem, negative attitude to work, loss of understanding and empathy towards clients or patients.
