Nottingham Forest On This Day chronicles in a diary format the club's turbulent history from those first days of gentlemen hoofing "the leather" about on the Forest Recreation Ground, through the glorious years of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor, right up to the present day. All the club's greatest moments are covered, including those unbelievable matches in Munich and Madrid after which John McGovern was required to hoist the huge European Cup over his head. Promotions, championships, the FA Cup Final wins in 1898 and 1959, the endless trips to Wembley in the late eighties and early nineties, every aspect of Nottingham Forest's successes receives coverage. Of course it has hardly been nearly one hundred and fifty years of continued achievement for the side. How about the day the season finished and they found themselves rock bottom of the entire Football League? The dreadful moment when the twice European Champs were relegated to the third tier for only the second time in their history? The day in 1974 when the then second division side's FA Cup semi-final dream was shattered by invading Newcastle fans? Of course along with the sublime comes the ridiculous. The burning question of who won the club's inaugural Players' Darts Tournament is answered. Who was the goalie who stood in a daze with the ball on his palm only for Gary Crosby to nip behind him, head it off his hand and dribble it home? Can you name the infamous Forest custodian who conceded fifteen goals in his total Reds career of three first team appearances? There is no doubt that 'Nottingham Forest On This Day' provides a healthy volume that would augment any football fan's book collection.
