No Straight Lines

Sometimes the life you were meant to live begins where the plan falls apart.

George Smith's life has rarely gone according to plan. At eight years old, an arrow cost him an eye and changed the future he thought he would have. Years later he left college when his family needed him and built a career in technology through curiosity and persistence. Then came illness and major surgeries. Professional loss and other setbacks forced him to keep starting over.

Through each turn, George learned that resilience is rarely dramatic. Sometimes it means asking for help when pride says not to. Sometimes it means finding humor in pain and taking one more step when the road disappears. Along the way he discovered that family matters. The people beside us often matter more than the plans we make.

No Straight Lines is a candid memoir about setbacks and recovery. It is also a story about love, work and the strange ways a life can come together. George does not offer a formula for avoiding hardship. He offers something more useful: the perspective of a man who has lived through enough detours to understand what survives them.

Sometimes the road that breaks your plan becomes the road that leads you home.
