At the age of 74, one of the world's most renowned entomologists shares the story of his exhilarating life. This book, which abounds in adventures and amazing encounters, is also a moving first-hand account of a scholar disillusioned with human beings who found a new passion for life in his search for the planet's most beautiful and strangest creatures. More than 20 million insects and butterflies passed through his hands. He selected most of them himself in France, Africa, and particularly in French Guiana's rattlesnake-infested forests. It was in this country relinquished to convicts and outcasts that, in 1903, his unusual vocation of butterfly hunter began, bringing him fame and fortune the day he discovered how to capture the Blue Morpho with its marvellous metallic highlights.Eugène Le Moult (1882–1967) was a Breton naturalist who specialised in entomology and particularly in butterflies. In Paris, he created the world's largest entomological showplace, and the twenty plates reproduced in this work give readers an idea of the unprecedented scope of his collection.
