Hair Diaries is a coming-of-age novel that follows Charisma, a young Black woman navigating the shifting landscapes of girlhood, college, and adulthood with her hair at the center of it all. What begins as a familiar routine of Sunday press-and-curls soon unfolds into a deeply personal and cultural journey, as each hairstyle marks a new chapter in her understanding of identity, beauty, and belonging.

From the sting of chemical relaxers to the weight of braided extensions, from late-night styling sessions in college dorm rooms to the quiet, life-altering decision to do a big chop, Charisma's hair becomes a living record of her transformation. Each choice is shaped not only by personal desire, but by the expectations of family, community, and a society that often defines beauty through a narrow lens. As she moves through different spaces-church pews, classrooms, workplaces, and salons-Charisma is forced to confront the subtle and overt messages that have shaped how she sees herself.
