At thirty years old, Alex M had a lot going for him: a career as a veterinarian, a social life full of music and friends, an apartment in Brooklyn, and a lifelong identity as someone who was just a little weird. He could live with that.

Then, at a rave in April 2024, something clicked.

Discovery is the raw, unfiltered journal of what happened next, the two days he spent in bed unable to eat, the slow return to the gym and the subway and McDonald's, the moments of grief and the moments of sudden, inexplicable joy. It is a record of a man in real time coming to terms with an autism diagnosis, rethinking everything from his childhood routines to his dating life to his shower order, and ultimately deciding that being different was never something he needed to fix.
