Importante es que el médico occidental se apropie de la sinergia que hay entre la salud física y mental, no se trata de cambiar su formación académica, pero sí de apropiarse de la visión holística del sistema tradicional. Es necesario que Occidente deje a un lado la soberbia intelectual, al mirar de forma despectiva todo lo que no viene de la academia. El médico debe considerar que la historia ha llevado a que de manera natural el indígena tenga desconfianza por el blanco, a esto se le suman la situación de enfermedad y el desconocimiento del lenguaje, lo que aumenta su vulnerabilidad, por tanto su encuentro con el sistema de salud occidental debe estar enmarcado por la comprensión y la armonía.
