CHRONICLES OF THE MONOSYLLABIC TRAVELER

By Navoch Mohanayak

"The one who knows does not speak. The one who speaks does not know." - Lao Tzu

"Shiva replied not with doctrine, but with method." - Vigyan Bhairav Tantra

About the Book

When an unthinkable structural collapse takes his wife, Mira, and dismantles his life as an architect, Ek chooses silence. Dropping the unnecessary noise of modern language, he embarks on a journey across disappearing landscapes as a "Field Cartographer for Disused & Transitional Sites" for a mysterious entity called The Archive.

Guided by cryptic letters from his handler, Reva, Ek travels across India and the globe - from the burning ghats of Varanasi and the healing sanctuaries of Rishikesh to the ancient moss gardens of Kyoto and the historic glass furnaces of Murano. Armed with a compass, a drawing journal, and an unopened brass tin of his mother's chai masala, Ek believes he is mapping physical ruins before they vanish. In reality, he is mapping his own grief, uncovering the profound art of presence, and discovering that the most honest architecture is not what we build, but what remains when everything falls away.

Why Readers Love It
  • A Masterful Fusion of Fiction and Philosophy: Structurally built like an Indian classical raga (moving through alap, jhor, vistar, sthayi, antarā, sanchari, and moksha), the novel subtly weaves the 112 ancient meditation techniques of the Vigyan Bhairav Tantra into 28 immersive narrative chapters.

  • Rich, Sensory World-Building: Travel through vividly captured settings - the rhythm of a Varanasi ferryman on the Ganga, the humming cellular memory of a physical body under healing hands in the Himalayas, the quiet surrender of Japanese autumn maples, and the intense heat of Venetian glassblowing.

  • Unforgettable Characters: Experience Ek's transformative interactions with composite teachers - a river ferryman who moves with the river's breath, an intuitive physiotherapist who listens to the body's hidden hum, a cremation ground keeper who sees fire as total attention, a 91-year-old moss gardener practicing daily un-knowing, and a master glassblower giving his breath to molten sand.

  • A Heartfelt Exploration of Loss and Healing: A deeply moving narrative for anyone navigating grief, memory, and the search for peace. It demonstrates how paying attention to simple acts - breathing, touching, listening, tasting - can reopen us to life.

Includes "The Hidden Map"

For readers seeking deeper spiritual discovery, the book includes an appendix detailing how the 112 sutras of the Vigyan Bhairav Tantra are embedded throughout Ek's journey, offering an experiential map to everyday mindfulness.

"The quiet ones are not empty. They are full. So full there is no room for words to get out."

Step into Ek's world, discover the hinge of the universe between a single inhale and exhale, and learn what it truly means to be here.
