After years alone following the death of her husband and a move to the Oregon coast to start fresh, PD Soares believes she has finally found a new career and a new love. Like her, Sam Kamealoha is a musician, but he is already a star in his native Hawaii. Their first duets are magical. They open a music store together in Seal Rock, but a new opportunity for Sam puts everything in doubt. Suddenly they are singing in different keys. Should PD give up her own music career to be his "groupie?"
Meanwhile, as often happens in western Oregon, a massive storm wallops the coast with floods and power failures. With the only road out underwater, PD is trapped up above Beaver Creek with her neighbors Dakota and Tess in the "rainbow house," her old friend Eugenia whom some people call The Witch, and a young mom named Shyanne trying to survive in a leaky travel trailer.
The surprises keep coming as PD faces an unexpected health crisis, a friend who comes home from New York pregnant, and the sudden loss of her mother. Not to mention a new job as a Catholic church choir director and her father off traveling with a younger woman who might become PD's stepmother.
All the while, she takes long walks on Ona Beach with its ever-changing tides and moods and channels her emotions into the songs she writes.
This is the fourth book in the Beaver Creek series, following Up Beaver Creek, Seal Rock Sound, and Between the Bridges. Born Patricia Donatella O'Leary, PD has been through a lot, but she is undaunted in her determination to lose her old identity as the pitiful widow people called "Cissy" and triumph in music and in life.
