ARC

In the future described in ARC, the USA is known as the URA, and much has changed. As we live in the present, we should carefully consider what we build now for ourselves in our own future and for our heirs in theirs. We also have to ponder what grows from what we leave to our heirs through what we have built and what we have destroyed.

What actually survives our era may be very different from what is seen in ARC, but much of what is in ARC seems to be already in the works. AI will eventually morph and be known as something else, as will some of our modes of transportation. Most of the work we do now will either be done by robots and digital entities, or it will simply no longer be done. Humans will have to assert themselves to remain relevant, but we have to assume that we and our successors will accomplish that task in some manner.

Digital gaming will continue to evolve, and it will integrate more and more into what we do day in and day out. Traditions in our culture will, some of them, carry forward but perhaps be, not so subtly, altered. Other standards may be barely recognizable as governments and those seeking attention continue to game existing systems and laws.

As a reaction to recent excursions, in our current times, into expansion of USA borders and influence, the URA will revert more fully to previous attempts to close it off from the rest of the world. The URA will be completely sequestered; its inhabitants kept in darkness about what is happening outside its contiguous fifty states, fifty where forty-eight had once been. Other countries, both those who had schemed to undermine the USA and those who had once allied themselves with it, have determined to leave the URA in isolation and ignorance.

A band will coalesce of individuals determined to break out of the isolation. Will these visionaries who become known in future legend be seen as saviors or will they be relegated to rest for eternity among the defeated?
