ANEVRA
A Different Kind of Mentoring
ILLUSTRATED EDITION
27 original illustrations. 27 moments to pause. 27 visual meditations. One journey through the open circle into a different kind of mentoring.
This book will not tell you what to think. It will try to become the kind of mentor who helps you notice how you think, whom you include, what you fear, what your anger is protecting, what your grief might become, where your power reaches, and what might be yours to do.
ANEVRA offers no ten rules for a better life and no map telling you where to go. Sometimes it may comfort or challenge you. Sometimes ask you to look again at someone you have stopped seeing clearly, or at yourself.
This is a different kind of mentoring. Not someone with answers, but someone beside you while you examine the questions. Attention rather than instruction. Perspective rather than prescription.
ANEVRA began during one of the happiest, and most painful, periods of Arven Anevski's life. After waiting thirty-one years to marry the woman he loved, Anevski was injured shortly after their wedding and found himself living with severe physical pain. Then, for five consecutive nights, amid pain and powerful medication, he returned to the same extraordinary dream.
He was above the sea at sunset. Whales and dolphins broke the surface below him. Birds dived into the water. And there, outside ordinary time, he found himself in conversation with a deity. They talked about humanity. About why people who long for peace can become so accomplished at creating the conditions for conflict. About grief, anger, fear and belonging. About repair. About the circles we draw around ourselves. About the living world. And about an empty chair.
Anevski makes no claim about what happened. Medication, pain, the subconscious, something else. He doesn't know. But the conversations stayed with him, and his questions followed him home.
ANEVRA is what happened when he decided to follow them. Beginning with everyday life, our losses, arguments, fears, relationships and differences, the journey widens: from the individual to communities; from organisations and technology to power; from those present to those affected but absent; from ourselves to future generations and the living world. Along the way, four movements emerge: Grief → Compassion. Anger → Peace. Division → Belonging. Fear → Courage. Not instructions, but possibilities.
At its heart are three questions: Who is affected, but absent? Who have we left outside the circle? What might my part be?
The Illustrated Edition
27 original monochrome illustrations accompany Before Anevra, the Prologue and all twenty-five chapters. Each occupies its own page as a visual meditation. An unfinished circle. A hand reaching towards another. Two faces separated by difference. Roots beneath the systems we build. A living circle widening beyond humanity. A horizon waiting at the end.
Ink, water, negative space and the open circle create a visual language moving from grief to compassion, anger to peace, division to belonging and fear to courage; from the individual towards humanity, other life and the living Earth. A moment to look. A moment to pause. A little more room.
You do not need to believe in or agree with Anevra. Perhaps you need only remain open, to another perspective, an uncomfortable question, or the possibility that someone has been left outside the circle. ANEVRA offers no perfect society and asks for no belief. It is not a religion, political programme or instruction manual.
ANEVRA is an invitation to explore the questions for yourself and experience an entirely different kind of mentoring. You don't have to agree or believe. In fact, bring your doubts.
The circle is open.
