Alda the raccoon and Marcel the porcupine have been best friends since they were five years old, ever since Alda found Marcel trembling at the base of her oak tree, hiding from his own shadow. Now they share that tree in Berry Forest, sleeping through the daylight hours and coming alive when darkness falls.

Tonight is no ordinary night. Marcel can barely contain his excitement, because tonight is the night the sky sparkles, and every creature in the forest knows it. But first, the two friends need breakfast, and that means sneaking through Farmer Henry's cornfield, past a mischievous skunk named Paulie, and into the most dangerous place they know: Gerry the rooster's chicken coop. With Henry's dogs on the porch and a protective rooster guarding every egg, one wrong move could ruin everything.
